Timbers began as a church plant out of Lakewood Alliance Church in Prince George in May of 1997. Ian Bennett was called as the first pastor. From the beginning, it was the vision of Pastor Ian and the church to reach people with the Good News of Jesus who had become discouraged about traditional expressions of the Christian faith.
Timbers began with about ten families who met in a Day Care facility in College Heights. After a couple of years the church migrated to the Playhouse Theatre at the junction of the two major highways in Prince George. For a short while the church met at the University of Northern BC but returned to the Playhouse when it became available again. During its short history the church has seen more than 350 conversions and 250 baptisms. Through innovation and simplicity of faith it continues in the spirit of the movement from which it began – the Christian and Missionary Alliance of Canada.
In 2007, Timbers planted another church plant in Prince George called Bridges because mission and church planting have been important elements in its ministry philosophy. Though Timbers belongs to and supports the ministry of the Alliance around the world, it seeks to further God’s kingdom work in cooperation with other churches both locally and globally.
In May 2009, Paul and Christine Berteig assumed the lead pastor role at Timbers. They are passionate about continuing to develop and unleash the people at Timbers to be a loving, accepting, caring, and transformational community; and to present grace and truth in a culturally relevant way.
