March 14: First Meeting of the New Board!

The new board of elders meet on March 14 at the Hub.

Every spot had a Lindor chocolate strategically placed on the table to help set the tone. One elder chose not to eat it because he thought it was a test of some kind. So another elder ate his for him.

Following a time of prayer, the meeting was handed to Transitional Pastor Daren Wride to walk through a combined report, orientation and macro-agenda for the board, laying down some tracks for this next phase.

The big items he proposed were:

  • Transition/Search
  • Membership
  • Finances
  • Governance

He proposed several related action points and some suggested motions to begin addressing at the next meeting.

The meeting also included a financial report- the summary of which will be emailed and communicated to the church in the next week- as well as some other housekeeping items.

It was an engaged, encouraging start for the new board.

February 21, 2018 Elder's Meeting

The February 21 meeting was primarily about preparations for the Annual Meeting coming up on the 25th.

A motion was made and carried to accept four people into full membership at Timbers.

Appreciation was expressed to our two outgoing elders Pam and Rob. While we will miss their presence and input, we are also anticipating the arrival of some new elders.

We then walked through a draft agenda for the AGM, reviewing financial reports and the budget, and making decisions along the way regarding what needed to be communicated at each point and by whom.

February 7, 2018 Elders Meeting

At this meeting, in addition to reviewing a report from the Transitional Pastor, which included reports from Jessica and Seth, we spent some time on financial reports and budgeting matters.

We also reviewed and refined a draft of the pastoral traits portion of the pastor search profile which is being developed. We will share the traits at the AGM on the 25th.

A large part of our current focus is preparing for the annual meeting and moving toward completion of the pastoral profile.

January 10, 2018 Elders Meeting

The board of elders met on January 10 at the Hub.

We had the privilege of praying for member of the congregation who came for prayer for physical healing.

The, following the usual "opening ceremonies" which includes approval of the minutes of the last meeting, approval of agenda, there was a report from the Transitional Pastor as well as our Treasurer.

There was very strong giving in December, allowing us to finish the year with a good balance in the bank and a stable financial footing for the start of 2018.

We then engaged in a multi-layered discussion surrounding the next steps of transition, staffing plans, budgeting, and especially how each of those areas impacts the others.

The budgeting process is well under way, and the Annual Meeting will be on February 25th.

Please continue to pray for guidance and direction as we continue to move inexorably toward the search for a new Lead Pastor.

December 6 Elders Meeting

The elders met on December 6 for their regular monthly meeting.

In addition to reviewing staff and financial reports, the following items were among those addressed:

  • The Annual Meeting will be February 25

  • Budget discussions also led into discussion regarding a staffing plan for 2018
  • They also reviewed some financial policy ideas which will be reviewed and possibly established early in the New Year
  • The next scheduled elders meeting will be January 10

November Meetings

The elders met twice in November.

The first meeting included a visit from Jessica Low and Seth Shelley, who were invited to share with the elders about their experiences of the past two years at Timbers.

There was also an initial discussion about KRA's (key result areas) that needed to be addressed during the season of transition.

At the second meeting, the KRA's were explored more fully and plans for the November 19 Assessment Meeting were drafted.
