Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28.18-20
This is known as the Great Commission.
It’s hard to tell in English, but the actual command is not “go” but “Make Disciples.”
And the other things that look like commands are actually participles, that is descriptors of how to make disciples.
You make disciples by going, baptizing and teaching.
Going = as you go through your day and week
Baptizing = the entire evangelistic process of leading someone to repentance and faith in Jesus, baptism being the biblical sign of repentance and faith.
Teaching to obey = helping people grow in their faith and walk with the Lord
The purpose of every biblical church, every follower of Jesus Christ is to make disciples.
What do you need to learn, how do you need to be trained, what do you need to change to more effectively participate in this great cause?
