The Holy Spirit

Let’s Talk about the Holy Spirit

Read: John 15:26-16:15.  Expanded Reading:  John 13-17.

Before you read the passage, imagine yourself as one of the disciples.  You have spent the last three plus years with Jesus.  Tonight he has washed your feet, broken bread, and shared his cup with you while teaching about the time that is coming, indeed is upon you.  Jesus has been teaching you late into the evening and you have begun to walk out into the night.  Jesus has predicted his betrayal and warned of all that will come to pass.  His teaching holds an urgency as his time with you draws near to an end and the time for “the Son of Man to enter into his glory” (John 13:31 NLT) is near.

Another Commission

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

-Jesus to his disciples in Acts 1.8

Pastors are people too

My brother had a shirt that I loved. It read, "Pastors are People too"

I think this was intended to send a message to people, that pastors are also people, and not to expect perfection.

I think I would rather now, in light of many things, rather have the shirt read; Pastors, you're people too.

Whats so bad about right now?

What is so bad about right now?

Think about it for a moment.

It feels like our whole lives are geared towards what is coming, whats next.

I'll relax next summer.

I'll connect with my family next week.

I had to answer a question my daughter gave me the other day, a question that I really never thought I would have to answer. It was about cameras. Film cameras to be specific. Recently at a garage sale I bought an old Pentax camera off an elderly gentlemen, hoping to expand my photographing skills and get in touch with my roots. So when I dusted off the old beast, threw some film in and began capturing some images the old way, my daughter was disappointed. She wanted to see the pictures I had taken, and she wanted to see right now. She was confused, angry, and decided she didn't like that camera because you couldn't see the pictures.
